Walsh Jennings and Sweat win at Hamaca Boca Chica

BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, October 6, 2019 – Three-time Olympic champion Kerri Walsh Jennings of USA-A combined with Brooke Sweat to win the gold medal at the Hamaca Finals NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament in Boca Chica on Sunday afternoon under sizzling conditions.

Walsh Jennings/Sweat defeated Cubans Yanisleidys Sánchez and Lidiannis Echeverría 2-0 (21-13, 23-21) to claim the victory

“The hotter the better,” said Wash Jennings about the weather conditions. “Great game by our young opponents.”

The Americans had to battle earlier on Sunday to get a come-from-behind triumph over compatriots Emily Stockman and Kelley Larsen 2-1 (18-21, 21-14, 15-12). Sanchez/Echeverría downed Canadian twins Nicole and Megan McNamara 2-0 (21-19, 21-16) in semifinals.

The bronze medal went to Stockman/Larsen who defeated Nicole/Megan 2-0 (21-16, 21-18).

Sophie Bukovec and Taylor Pischke of Canada-B finished in fifth place after defeating Mexicans Zaira Orellana and Martha Revuelta 2-0 (21-15, 21-8) and Puerto Ricans María González and Bianca Torres won 2-0 (27-25, 21-13) over Nicaragua’s Swan Mendoza and Lolette Rodríguez for the seventh position.
