Three Dominican
among best Players
at FIVB Women’s U23
Tijuana, Mexico, October 12, 2013 – Champions China and
runners-up Dominican Republic each had three players included in
the All-Star Team of the FIVB Women’s U23 World Championship
that concluded on Saturday with a victory for the Asian side.
China’s Yao Di was named the best setter and Most Valuable
Player joining middle blockers Yang Zhou and Zhan Xioya in the
ideal squad.
Dominican Republic’s Brayelin Martinez and Japan’s Sarina Koga
were selected as the outside hitter, while Jeoselyna Rodriguez
and Brenda Castillo were included as opposite and libero,
respectively.
The All-Star Team was awarded during the closing ceremony prior
to the presentation of the medals and trophies to the top three
teams on the podium.
The best scorer of the competition was USA’s Gina Mancuso who
totaled 110 points, followed by China’s Liu Yanhan with 109,
Dominican Republic’s Martinez and Rodriguez with 108 and 105,
respectively, and Italy’s Laura Partenio with 101.
Martinez was the best spiker with a success percentage of 47.03,
followed by Cuba’s Alena Rojas with 46.48 and Japan’s Koga with
44.38.
Brazil’s Mara Leao recorded 28 blocks for a 1.28 per set, while
Brazilian Francynne Jacintho had 26 for an average of 1.00.
The Dominican Rodriguez was by far the best server of the
competition with 21 aces for an average of 0.88 per set.
Teammate Castillo was the best digger with an average of 4.75,
while the best receiver was Hatice Orge of Turkey with an
average of 38.73 of effectiveness. Castillo was also selected as
the best libero of the competition. |
