Virgen and Ontiveros win men’s gold medal
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, March 31, 2013 – Mexico’s Juan
Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros picked up the men’s gold medal at
the Boca Chica Beach Volleyball Tournament, the second leg of
the 2013 NORCECA Circuit on Sunday.
Virgen/Ontiveros crushed Brad Keenan and John Mayer of USA-A
21-14, 21-17 in the final match while Chaim Schalk and Benjamin
Saxton of Canada-A won 21-0, 21-0 over compatriots Christian
Redman and Maciej Zbyszewski of Canada-B for the bronze medal
when the latter was unable to play due to a knee problem.
It was the seventeenth gold medal for Virgen.

USA and Canada top women’s pools in Boca Chica
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, March 30, 2013 –The USA women’s
teams both advanced to the quarterfinals of the Boca Chica Beach
Volleyball Tournament with 4-0 win-loss records in the
preliminary pool play that concluded on Saturday.
Brittany Hochevar and Summer Ross of USA-B claimed the top place
of Pool A.

Two teams of Canada in Men’s Final Four
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, March 30, 2013 – The two men’s
teams of Canada have reached the semifinals of the Boca Chica
Beach Volleyball Tournament, the second leg of the 2013 NORCECA
Beach Circuit.
Chaim Schalk and Benjamin Saxton of Canada-A and Christian
Redman and Maciej Zbyszewski of Canada-B both will be part of
the final-four competition early Sunday in Boca Chica, joining
Brad Keenan and John Mayer of USA-A and Juan Virgen and Lombardo
Ontiveros of Mexico.
Schalk/Saxton won 21-18, 21-19 over Avery Drost and Will
Montgomery of USA-B while Redman/Zbyszewki outlasted Luis
Rodriguez.

USA women’s teams enjoy Good Friday
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, March 29, 2013 – The women’s
teams of USA and Guatemala succeeded in both their opening day
outings at the Boca Chica Beach Volleyball Tournament on Friday.
Brittany Hochevar and Summer Ross of USA-B began their day with
a tough victory in three sets (23-25, 21-18, 15-13).

Mexico and Canada with men’s fast break in Boca Chica
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, March 29, 2013 – Mexico’s Juan
Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros and Canada’s Christian Redman and
Maciej Zbyszewski claimed two victories in the men’s opening day
of the Boca Chica Beach Volleyball Tournament by Presidente, the
second leg of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit.
Playing in Pool D, Virgen/Ontiveros first subdued Avery Drost
and Will Montgomery of USA-B 21-13, 21-17 and then followed with
a 25-17, 25-11 victory over Hector Soto and Victor Rivera of
Puerto Rico-B.

Boca Chica welcomes beach players from 10 countries
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, March 28, 2013 – The players
from ten countries are ready to battle for the top honors in the
double-gender Boca Chica Beach Volleyball Tournament presented
by Presidente, the second stop of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit.
USA and Canada each will be represented by two teams per gender,
while Puerto Rico has registered two men’s teams. Three women’s
pairs and three men’s duos will take part to defend the colors
of the Dominican Republic.

Mexicans Virgen and Candelas are big guns in Boca Chica
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 27, 2013 – Mexico’s
Juan Virgen and Bibi Candelas, owners of several records of
NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit, are registered to play in Boca
Chica during the Easter weekend.
Virgen, the all-time winningest player in the history of the
circuit, is among the pre-tournament favorites, the second stop
of the year.
Virgen, who teams up with Lombardo Ontiveros, won fourteen of
his 16 crowns playing alongside with now retired Aldo Miramontes.
The duo of Virgen and Ontiveros won twice last year.
The resident of Nayarit, who turns 26 on April 9, holds most of
the all-time NORCECA records in the men’s category, including
most victories in a season with five in 2010.

Former world junior champion to compete in Boca Chica
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 27, 2013 – USA’s Summer
Ross, the U-19 and U-21 beach volleyball world champion in 2010,
is one of the stars to compete on the pearly sands of Boca
Chica when the Santo Domingo Tournament serves off on the
weekend.
Ross, who will team up with Brittany Hochevar, is the only
player to win both tournaments in the same year. The other
American women team consists of Jennifer Fopma and Brooke Sweat.
In September 2012, Summer won the FISU World University
Championship in Maceio, Brazil, with partner Emily Day.
American women have won twice the gold medal in Boca Chica. In
2007, Paula Roca and Alizia Polzin triumphed in the inaugural
female event while Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik topped the
field in 2011.

Canadians and Puerto Ricans aiming to continue success
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 26, 2013 – Canada’s
Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas and Puerto Rico’s Roberto
Rodriguez and Eric Haddock, winners of the first leg of the 2013
NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit last Sunday in Cayman Islands,
will be back on the sand next weekend when the action continues
in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.
Broder and Valjas took the women’s gold medal winning over
Americans Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik in straight sets while
Rodriguez and Haddock outlasted the USA men’s team of Todd
Rogers and Ryan Doherty also in two sets.
In Boca Chica, 20 miles to the east of Santo Domingo, Rodriguez.
