A New King to be Crowned
Nassau, The Bahamas - August 22 - A new king will be crowned when
the 19th CAZOVA championship climaxes on Day Eight in the Kendal GL
Isaacs National Gymnasium, Nassau, The Bahamas.
That is because the newest hero of Bahamas Kyle Wilson put on a
sublime performance to blast his team into the final while deposing
the 2023 rulers Suriname 15-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 15-9. The
large crowd of screaming spectators were thrilled when Wilson
carried the match into a decider with his unstoppable missiles.
But all of that did not prepare anyone for the unbelievable heroics
in the fifth set. The Bahamas took an 8-0 lead with Wilson scoring
every point with seven thunderous spikes and a monster block.
With the crown slipping from the heads of Suriname they found no
answer or counter for Wilson as The Bahamas launched to 12-4 with
only a serving error by Suriname denying Wilson 100% of his team’s
points. Creeping to 4-13, Suriname finally surrendered when the
home team closed out the set and opened up the Junkanoo
celebrations.
Earlier Curacao continued their unbeaten run to book a date in the
final with The Bahamas. Curaçao who won Group B dismissed Jamaica
in straight sets 25-17, 25-18, 25-17. Barbados won the fifth spot
following a marathon win over Trinidad and Tobago 27-25, 24-26,
25-17, 18-25, 21-19.
On Day Eight T&T will play Guadeloupe for the 6/7 positions while
Jamaica and Suriname will clash for the bronze before the gold medal
match is played before what is expected to be a full Gym. |
