A look ahead of Beach Volleyball at the Pan American Games
SANTIAGO, Chile, October 16, 2023.-
The Beach Volleyball double gender tournament at the 2023 Pan American
Sports Games will take place at Peñalolén Park in the City of Santiago,
Chile, from October 21 to 27.
The Beach Volleyball Center in Peñalolén Park will gather 19 countries
competing for seven days.
Beach Volleyball was first introduced to the Pan American Games at the
Winnipeg 1999 edition and has been dominated by Brazil in both men and
women.
Brazil has won the men’s tournament in two occasions, in Rio De Janeiro
2007 and Guadalajara 2011, of the five times they’ve reached the gold
medal match.
Emanuel Fernando Scheffler Rego,
three-time Olympic medalist, won them both, in 2007 with Ricardo Santos
and in 2011 with Alison, both also Olympic medalists.
In the past edition of Lima 2019, Brazil didn’t reach the podium.
Canada, Chile, Cuba and Mexico have one gold medal each.
Chilean cousins Marco and Esteban Grimalt won the previous edition, the
only medal for Chile and as hosts are targeting to repeat their feat in
front of the home crowd.
In women, Brazil won in Winninpeg 1999, Rio De Janeiro 2007 and
Guadalajara 2011. Juliana Silva and Larissa França
won
back-to-back the 2007 and 2011 editions, the duo was world champions in
2011. Argentina, Cuba and the United States have one gold medal each.
USA’s Jace Pardon and Karissa Cook won the previous edition of the Games
in Lima 2019.
