AFECAVOL Qualifier to Youth Olympics ready for the battle

PUNTARENAS, Costa Rica, March 10, 2018 – The AFECAVOL U19 Beach Volleyball Qualification Tournament toward the Youth Olympic Games Argentina 2018 marks the starting point for the rest of the events of the year both within and outside of the región and is considered a great opportunity for the young Central American talents.

The coaches of the seven countries in competition commented this will be an event to add experience for some and a chance to bright for others.

Alberto Ozuna, coach of Guatemala: “we are in a new process with our pairs but the kids are not bringing any pressure and are prepared for the format of the tournament with four matches for the boys and three for the girls in one day.

Laura Molina of El Salvador: “We have worked real hard with the girls and need to get together as a team. We want a podium and our expectations are to reach the Oympics. We had a training camp and AFECAVOL returned to the arrival system of two days before which has helped.”

Alberto Quiel of Panama: We want to make things well, what we have practiced and taught to the youngsters. The weather could be a factor since the two pairs are very young, 15 years-old, but it will serve as preparation for the U17 Central American in Nicaragua.

Francisco Castro of Nicaragua: “We hope to qualify to the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina. Last time we almost did it but missed the chance due to an injury. We have worked hard on it, strengthening the new talents and considering the capacity of the other countries.”

Manuel Serrano of Honduras: “We are on high spirits and hope to get the pass to the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina. We have faith in God and are confident about our players. It is a ver important start of the year since we can put in perspective where we want to be and set our goals.”

Adilson Milanes of Costa Rica: “To have these age group tournaments in Central America is a sign of progress since we have an upcoming U17. We are taking the first steps to fortify the beach volleyball in the region and that’s important for the kids. Here the competition is so leveled and anything can happen.”

Kelsy Balderamos coach of Belice: “We are bringing good indoor players who are in their first beach event but we are confident about their good conditions. It is a big change but I think we can do it well. We trained two hours daily for over two months ahead of this tournament.”
