All five Continental Confederations present future plans

 

CAGLIARI, Italy, November 1, 2014 – The presidents of the five continental confederations grouped under the FIVB presented their future plans to the 210 national federations attending the 34th World Congress while expressing their optimism for the eventual development of the sport in their respective regions.

 

In the closing session of the biennial general assembly, Dr. Rafael Lloreda (South America), Dr. Amr Elwani (Africa), Dr. Saleh Bin Nasser (Asia), Mr. Andre Meyer (Europe) and Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz (Norceca), all explained their projects at short, medium and long term and got a positive reaction from the representatives of the national federations.

 

Finally, Marte Hoffiz closed the presentation of reports with full details of the structure of NORCECA Confederation and the way it operates internally and externally, keeping constant communication with all its affiliates.

 

Marte Hoffiz presented calendars of volleyball and beach volleyball covering the period of 2015-2018 and introduced to the audience how they organized the qualification process towards the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games offering open opportunities to all the countries.

 

He gave special mention to the partnership with Molten and Sport Court that has allowed NORCECA to distribute playing equipment to all its members as well as playing surfaces to a group of them as part of the plan to offer better conditions to practice the sport.

 

He gave credit to all the leaders of the four zonal associations within the continental confederation as well as the regional development center located in the Dominican Republic.

 

At the end of his report he presented a video of the participation of the Dominican Republic team in the FIVB Women’s World Championship in Italy where they finished in the fifth position and put them as an example of what can be achieved with a effort and dedication.

 

Dr. Lloreda, who was the first to present the plans of South America Confederation, made reference to the “WAVE” project intended to generate news about the competition in spiral motion utilizing the social media channels as well as the traditional means of communication.

 

The plan is to integrate young students of journalism to the different national federations as responsible to spread volleyball and beach volleyball news from their countries and to keep permanent contact with CSV.

 

Dr. Elwani commented on the Africa Dream Project based on a common development plan putting emphasis on the national federations in category I and II but also providing support to the elite top African teams.

 

He called the attention to the need of giving more participation to the women based o the principles of equity and inclusion as well as the optimal use of the resources.

 

The project will be focused on players with ages between 8 and 14 years old who will go through a programme based on a philosophy that has been named “Long Term Athlete’s Development” aimed to create strong and competitive youth volleyball teams.

 

Dr. Bin Nasser said the first move of Asian Volleyball Confederation will be to move the headquarters from Tokio, Japan to Bangkok, Thailand and request from the five zonal representatives to identify the needs of the national federations I and II as well as their current situation of volleyball in their region.

 

The plan includes to ensure the participation of more national federations in beach volleyball as well as in the age-group different categories of volleyball with the establishment of Development Academies in the five zones with the support from FIVB.

 

They also have plans to create development centers in all five zones with a good use of the current FIVB Development Centers to guarantee the sustainability of those programmes.

 

Meyer said the keys for Europe are participation and involvement to go hand in hand with the concept of development FIVB has brought to the table.

 

He said their programme aims toward the work with the young generation of players with the increase in the number of competitions they participate as well as the summer beach volleyball festivals for the kids.

 

Meyer commented that social media and mobile applications have greatly contributed to the expansion of the sport and volleyball can’t elude that universal trend so popular among the young generation of people.

 

Several National Federations received plaques of recognition for celebrating the 25th and 50th anniversary of being established and affiliated to FIVB.

 

The presidents of the National Federations of El Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago from NORCECA and England from Europe, received their awards for their 50th anniversary.

 

Those with 25 years were:

Algeria, Barbados, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Grenada, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Kuwait, Lesotho, Malasya, Mali, Mauritania, Monaco, Niger, Niue Island, Papua New Guine, Sierra Leone, St Kitts & Nevis, Thailand and Wales.
