Americans Hartong & Urango triumph in Punta Cana
PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, September 15, 2019 –
Americans Emily Hartong and Geena Urango who dominated their
opponents in pool play were considered the favorites to win
the gold medals of the Punta Cana Beach Volleyball
Tournament and did not disappoint their followers
Hartong and Urango claimed the top prize of the sixth stage
of the 2019 NORCECA Circuit with a comfortable victory over
Canada’s Molly McBain and Becky Tresham 2-0 (21-19, 21-14)
on Sunday afternoon.
The American duo had advanced to the last match of the
competition after defeating Puerto Ricans María González and
Bianca Torres 2-0 (28-26, 21-16) in the semifinals.
McBain and Tresham gained the right to play for the title
following a battle with Mexicans Zaira Orellana and Martha
Revuelta 2-1 (21-17, 12-21, 15-10).
Orellana and Revuelta earned the third position on the
podium after an overwhelming victory over González and
Torres 2-0 (21-13, 21-9)
