Americans Muno and Sponcil claim four victories in Fajardo
FAJARDO, Puerto Rico, December 7, 2013 – Suzanne Muno and Sarah
Sponcil of United States finished as the top ranked team in the
round-robin phase of the NORCECA Central Zone Girls’s Beach
Volleyball Qualification Tournament towards the 2014 Nanjing
Youth Olympic Games at Seven Seas Beach in Fajardo on Saturday.
The duo of Muno and Sponcil registered a 4-0 win-loss record
followed by the Canadian tandem of twins Megan and Nicole
McNamara who finished with a 3-1 mark.
In the semifinals of Sunday, Muno/Sponcil will play against
Puerto Rico’s Lina Bernier and Eva Torruella while the McNamaras
are set to play against Mexico’s combo of Diana Valdez and
Stephanie Burnside who compiled a 2-2 record.
Muno/Sponcil downed Dominican Republic’s Magen Bolton and Pamela
Jaime 21-11, 21-9 and saw off Valdez/Burnside 21-11, 21-19.
The Americans won 21-15, 21-15 over the Canadians for their
third win and then bested Puerto Ricans Bernier/Torruella 28-26,
21-12.
The McNamara sisters began the day with a 21-12, 24-22 victory
over Bernier/Torruella and edged Díaz/Burnside 21-19, 21-18
before crushing Bolton/Jaime 21-7, 21-14.
