Angelica Rodriguez carries Costa Rica victory over Guatemala

BELIZE CITY, Belize, July 20, 2023.- Opposite Angélica Rodríguez with 21 points carried Costa Rica’s victory over Guatemala  3-0 (25-21/25-22/25-15) and was key to keep their undefeated record at the XIV AFECAVOL Women’s Central American Championship.

Costa Rican Rodirguez collected 20 points from attacks and one on serves. Her teammate, outside hitter Joselyn Moraga, was the second best scorer with 11 points, 9 on attacks and two from serves.

Dulce Trigueño stood out as Guatemala’s leading scorer with 11 points, 9 on attacks and two on aces followed by Naomi Monney with 10 points from attacks.

Costa Rica scored 45 points on attacks against 30 of Guatemala, both teams were 7 points even in blocks and Costa Rica outplayed Guatemala in serves 10-5.

Costa Rica scored 16 points on opponent errors, while Guatemala scored 13.

On Friday Costa Rica will face El Salvador at 2:30pm and Guatemala faces host Belize at

7:30pm.
