Anguilla Women Defend their ECVA U21
Beach Volleyball Title on Day One
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts and Nevis, June 6, 2025.- Defending champions
Deandra Fleming and Lavesha Richardson of Anguilla won Pool A
defeating the local duo of Celina Alwani and Jontelle Hensley Philip
and Roneika Gibson alongside Veronique Matthews of St. Vincent and
the Grenadines on day one of the Women’s 2025 ECVA U21 Beach
Volleyball Championship in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Joining Richardson/Fleming in the quarterfinals are St. Lucia’s
Ericka Gaspard and Clio Phillip, Kayley Hamilton and Hailey Moss of
Bermuda, and Dominica’s Alyssa Bully and Joyan Pascal.
Anguilla’s Deandra Fleming and Lavesha Richardson secured a 2-0
victory (21-12, 23-21) over Celina Alwani and Jontelle Hensley
Philip of St. Kitts and Nevis to win Pool A. Earlier in the day,
Richardson/Fleming had also defeated St. Vincent and the Grenadines’
Gibson/Matthews in straight sets (21-18, 21-15), while
Alwani/Hensley Philip claimed a 2-0 win (21-8, 21-14) over the same
Vincentian duo.
St. Lucia’s Ericka Gaspard and Clio Phillip dominated Pool B to
finish at the top with two commanding victories. They opened with a
dominant 2-0 win (21-4, 21-7) over St. Kitts and Nevis’ Jahzara
Andrew and Asia Campbell, then sealed first place by defeating
Grenada’s Xenia Collins and Teasia Jones in straight sets (21-14,
21-14). Earlier, Teasia/Collins had swept Andrew/Campbell 2-0
(21-13, 21-11).
Kayley Hamilton and Hailey Moss of Bermuda emerged as the winners of
Pool C with a flawless performance, winning both of their matches in
straight sets. The pair displayed dominance throughout, first
defeating Azarraha Amritt and Shaylee Pinney of St. Kitts and Nevis
2-0 (21-4, 21-10) and then overpowering Gereliva Spanner and Gercia
Brown of St. Eustatius 2-0 (21-8, 21-9). Spanner/Brown were coming
from a three-set victory 2-1 (4-21, 21-16, 15-12) against
Amritt/Pinney.
Dominica’s Alyssa Bully and Joyan Pascal claimed the top spot in
Pool D with back-to-back three-set victories. They opened the day by
rallying from a set down to defeat the British Virgin Islands’
Natalia Drayton and Megan Farrington 2-1 (16-21, 21-16, 15-10).
Bully and Pascal then secured the pool win with a gritty 2-1 triumph
(21-15, 23-21, 15-6) over Antigua and Barbuda’s Jassania Joseph and
Jaya Carr. Earlier, Joseph and Carr swept Drayton and Farrington 2-0
(21-11, 21-14).
Day two of the event will start with round of 12 to determine the
quarterfinal matchups.
