Anguilla, St. Eustatius, Montserrat and Antigua Barbuda vie for places in World Cup Qualifiers.

St. JOHNS, Antigua,  September, 9,   2016- Many promises were made by the coaches and managers of the teams participating in the ECVA World Cup Qualifiers Men group A. The four teams meet in round robin competition before the goal medal match is played on Sunday 11th with the top two advancing to the next round.

Based on recent form and statistics Antigua and Anguilla are the pretournament favourites but Montserrat and St. Eustatius have warned not to count them out.

According to coach Cadet Morris of Montserrat their team came to excel in all facets of the game. “After several years of competing in this competition team Montserrat is coming with a different attitude. We have some very young energetic guys who will be tempered by a few experienced players and after being in training for about 2 years we are ready to cause a few upsets”, he said.

Coach of St. Eustatius Edmond Hook team suggested that at the end they may leave a few hearts broken. “We are here to bring our “A” game and for sure we are  not going down without a fight,” he beamed. In saying that he somewhat accepted the underdog role but he also had a twinkle in his eye to suggest that his team was up to some mischief

Anguilla’s Jason Liburd was much more methodical in his approach. “Our first objective is to get into the finals as that guarantees us a place in the next round.  Secondly once we have gotten there our next aim is to win. We have  a mixture of vets and youth as well as a distinct advantage in terms of size so I believe that we have the firepower to pull it off, he intimated

Carl Williams - Antigua’s head coaching was brimming with confidence. “The guys are rearing and ready to go. It is a somewhat of a new team but the guys have come through the ranks and they too are eager and anxious to exhibit good skills and team work. They too are confident that we will come out on top in this group”, he avered.

The Group A men’s action starts with St. Eustatius versus Anguilla at 9 am on Friday 9th September.
