St. John’s, Antigua, May 8, 2016 – Antigua/Barbuda made it look
like a mere formality when they brushed aside St. Eustatius in
straight sets (25-20, 25-10 and 25-12)in the final game of the
round robin of the ECVA Youth Female competition.
The result proved the pundits correct in calling the St. Martin
versus Antigua final and that St. Eustatius was still somewhat
behind on the learning curve.
Coach of the Antigua team Rosalie Lewis and her captain Britney
Gore were on the same page as far as the game assessment was
concerned. “We were confident of victory in this game and so we
did not want to expend too much energy to rest up and come back
for the finals,” Lewis said.
“The girls are quite pumped and psyched up for the game the
finals tonight when will meet St. Martin again. St. Eustatius
was just a bump on the road to the finals,” the 6 Gore revealed.
Coach Suyne Robins of St. Eustatius agreed with the comment that
St. Eustatius had a lot to learn. “I think we need a lot more
exposure to competitive games at this level so that they can get
accustomed to maintaining a certain standard of play for a
sustained period. We could do with extra work in all Departments
including coaching,” she intimated.
Antigua/Barbuda completely ruled the score cards with 12 to 4 in
Spikes, 5 to 0 on Blocks and 11 to 2 in Service points and to
complete the card gleefully accepted 47 points from opponents’
errors.
For the winners Britney Gore recorded 12 points from an
all-round effort of Spikes (6), Blocks (3) and Aces (3). For the
losers no one had scores worthy of note.
The tournament continues with a third place off game between St.
Lucia and St. Eustatius and the savory matchup between St.
Martin and Antigua Barbuda in the finals. |
