Dominicans and Puerto Ricans get off to fast start

BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, April 22, 2011 –Dominican Republic plays United States-1 and Puerto Rico takes on Costa Rica on early Saturday for the top place in pools A and D respectively at the Boca Chica Beach Volleyball Tournament, the third leg of the 2011 NORCECA Circuit.

Dominican twins Gina and Ginette Del Rosario had a jump start for the joy of their home fans with 21-9, 21-11 and 21-10, 21-11 victories over Elki Phillip/Pauline Woodroffe of Trinidad and Tobago and Samira Luis and Christine Anthony of Curacao respectively.

Americans Ashley Ivy and Lisa Rutledge won 21-14, 21-10 over the Curacao girls and the downed the Trinidadians 21-14, 21-12.

The Puerto Rican duo of Beatriz Rivera and Tatiana Encarnacion started the day with a 21-17, 21-19 win over Jennifer Bily and Cristin Alexander of Cayman Islands and then beat Jamaica’s Cheryl Daley and Cherine Richards by score of 21-14, 21-14.

Pool play will continue early Saturday to determine the seeding of teams in the single-elimination bracket.
