St Lucia remains unbeaten
GROS ISLET, St Lucia, April 27, 2012 Host St Lucia was clinical
as they shut out St Vincent and the Grenadines 3-0 (25-9, 25-22,
25-12) to remain unbeaten in the 2014 World Championships
Qualification Tournament of the NORCECA Men’s Group B on Friday
night.
The home team did not disappoint the fair sized crowd which
turned out but at times was muted by the Vincentians'
resilience. St Lucia is on a perfect score of ten points from
their victories while St Vincent and the Grenadines remains on
four, also from two matches.
After St Lucia easily took the first set, the Vincentians clawed
back to push their opponents in the second. The host though
showed their superiority in third as they pulled away midway in
the set.
Kendall Charlery, Coach of St Lucia, and team captain Dayne
Williams, both concurred that their team did not keep its
composure enough throughout the match, especially in the second
set. Williams said his team was able to capitalize on the
Vincentians' errors.
Earlier, Grenada overcame a more spirited St. Eustatius team, to
win 3-0(25-21, 25-13, 25-15) and record their first win.
Grenada took their tally of points to six, with the five gained
from this three sets to nil win, while St Eustatius is yet to
win a set and is pointless.
But both coaches expressed that their teams had shown some
improvements on their previous outings.
Grenada's coach, Raphael Brathwaite said: "There was some
improvement and we are looking forward to meet St Lucia in our
last match and the semi finals, and take it from there."
Esmond Hook, Coach of St Eustatius said: "It was definitely an
improvement for us and we expect to get better as the tournament
goes on."
Following the match, there was the Opening Ceremony which was
addressed by President of the St Lucia Volleyball Association
Brian Louisy and St Lucia's Director of Youth Development and
Sports, Victor Reid.
St Lucia engages Grenada from 10:30, as the preliminary round of
the competition concludes on Saturday morning. St Vincent and
the Grenadines play St. Eustatius in Saturday's first match of
the double header. |
