St Vincent and St Lucia open with victories
GROS ISLET , St Lucia, Friday April 27, 2012 - St Vincent and
the Grenadines defeated Grenada 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-12)
to win the opening match of the 2014 World Championship
Qualification Tournament of the NORCECA Men’s Group B here at
the Beausejour Indoor Facility. By winning 3-1, St Vincent and
the Grenadines earned four points and Grenada one.
In the second match of the day, hosts St Lucia recorded an
uncomplicated 3-0 (25-9, 25-6, 25-9) win over St Eustatius and
came away with maximum five points. The home team had little
trouble in disposing of their inexperienced opponents.
Coach of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines team, Brian Burke,
though grateful with the victory was not totally satisfied with
his team's overall performance.
"We were not consistent enough as we made a lot of crucial
errors especially in the first, but we need to always play to
our true potential," Burke said.
Grenada’s Raphael Braithwaite laid blame on his team's reception
of the serves. "Our reception was very poor, but as we go game
by game, we should improve," Braithwaite stated.
The coach of St Lucia team Kendall Charlery was not totally
happy that his charges' efficiency in every department. "We
still have a couple areas to work on the free balls coming over,
giving away easy points, but it is work in progress," Charlery
reported.
Losing coach, Esmond Hook, thumbed the essentials for his team
poor showing. "Our biggest problem was bringing back the
service, which led us to make bad setting and it was difficult
to get back in the game and the team became frustrated because
you can't get going with a bad pass," Hook commented. |
