President Wei tours the BC High Performance Center
TIJUANA, Mexico, April 29, 2012 — FIVB President Jizhong Wei
arrived to the Baja California High Performance Center on Sunday
morning for a special tour around the facilities that host the
NORCECA Women’s Qualification Tournament.
Wei was received by NORCECA President and FIVB First Executive
Vice President, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, along with the Baja
California Sports Director and Tournament’s Local Organising
Committee CEO, Saul Castro Verdugo.
President Wei and his wife Li Lingpei, visited the different
areas of the complex such as the Administration Building, Sports
Medicine Clinic, Gathering Area, as well as the Athletic
Village.
The tour also included an unexpected meeting with the Baja
California Taekwondo Team during its morning practice followed
by the visit to the Swimming and Diving Complex that hosted the
last date of the FINA Diving World Series a week ago.
Other area that captured Mr. Wei’s attention was the Athletes’
Educational Center a middle school level institution that
provides academic preparation to all the boys and girls who are
part of the state sports talent program.
One of those students, Reina Navarro, had the chance to meet and
talk with the FIVB President, who wished her good look in her
beginning as a volleyball player and student.
“I am very surprised and amazed for the good effort made at this
center, in providing the tools and education to those kids who
come from lower resources families, that is a great social work,
that contributes to have better human beings thanks to the
values of sport,” said Mr. Wei.
He also had the chance to meet with the national team members of
Mexico, Puerto Rico and the U-20 Team of Cuba, that is along
with the senior team in Tijuana in a training camp.
The tour concluded with the presentation of a feature video
production by the Sports Institute Baja California, that
recreates the success of this region of Mexico in the National
Junior Olympic Program. |
