St Lucia's Joseph Clercent takes MVP Award

 

GROS ISLET , St Lucia, April 29, 2012 - St Lucia's Joseph Clercent was named the Most Valuable Player of the  2014 World Championships Qualification Tournament of the NORCECA First Round Men’s Group B here at the Beausejour Indoor Facility on Sunday night.

 

Clercent was also selected as Best Scorer and Best Spiker of the competition.

 

For Clercent, it was an award he set out to achieve from the start of the tournament, ahead of his 25th birthday.

 

"I really worked hard for it, because next Tuesday is my birthday, and I worked for it to give myself a good birthday present," Clercent admitted.

 

"I came out, worked hard at training, my coach motivated me and I just wanted to do my best and make my country proud,” Clercent said.

 

Three other players from St. Lucia were among the  other awardees during the closing ceremony as Benson Tertullien copped the Best Libero, Kas Charles, the Best Server, and Servin Mungroo was  the Best Setter.

 

Marlon Williams of runner-up St Vincent and the Grenadines was the Best Receiver in addition to being the Best Digger while another Vincentian, Cleuvvan Cumberbatch was the Best Blocker.

 

Final positions: 1. Saint Lucia, 2. St Vincent and the Grenadines, 3. Grenada, 4. St Eustatius.
