Argentina battled in five sets the triumph over Cuba
TRUJILLO, Peru, July 10, 2019 - Argentina and Cuba heated the
temperature of the Gran Chimú Coliseum in Trujillo with an
intense duel that ended in victory for the former 3-2 (25-23,
20-25, 25-18, 26-28, 15-10).
The South American team had to use their best defense to make
most of the counterattacking points. Cuba on the other hand had
a very fast game at the ends and in the center, but finally the
team with more concentration and experience would win the match.
The opposite Argentine, Lucía Fresco led the offense of her team
with 29 points followed by the outside hitter Yamila Nizetich,
with 21 points. While the opposite Cuban Greisy Fine, scored 24
points in the lost cause followed by the captain Diaris Pérez,
with 21.
Argentina showed greater dominance in the attack (77-71) and
blocking (8-7), but it was exceeded in service (4-5). The
unforced errors were similar with 21 by both sides.
Setter of Argentina, Valentina Galiano: I think we started the
tournament very well, we started playing with tough opponents
and that gave us more rhythm of play to face Cuba which is a
team with a lot of strength, athletic and a very powerful
attack. For the next stage we will play with concentration and
we will be harder to face the matches that are coming.
Setter of Cuba, Gretell Moreno: We had to recover quickly from
the loss to Peru, and we went out with everything to give a good
image of Cuban volleyball. Today we tried to make a quick game
because Argentina is a team with experience and a lot of
defense, in the end we were very close, but we made mistakes in
key points, it is something we must work on.
With this result, Argentina secured its permanence in the
headquarters of the Gran Chimú Coliseum in Trujillo, where this
Friday 12 will play the quarterfinals. While Cuba, will move to
the Coliseo Cerrado de Chiclayo, to play for the classification
of the position 7 to 10. |
