Argentina beat Costa Rica before leaving Pachuca
PACHUCA, Mexico, June 15, 2014 – Argentina defeated Costa Rica
3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-17) to confirm their second place in Pool
B and a quarterfinals berth in the XIII Women’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup.
The Argentineans totaled three victories with only one loss to
United States, after defeating a battling Costa Rica but without
enough weapons to play against a superior opponent that was
better in all aspects.
Natalia Aispurua was the best scorer of the match with 12 points
for Argentina, followed by Josefina Fernández and Emilce Sosa
with 11 and 10, respectively. Paola Ramirez topped the Costa
Ricans with nine points.
Guillermo Orduna, Coach of Argentina: “We can play better, more
focused. We need to adjust to the level of the opponent. We need
to dean with the changes of levels in the attack and to learn
how to play our game. They were already qualified but that is
not an excuse. A team gains maturity when is able to play with
the same intensity and they are in debt with that.”
Yamila Nizetich, Captain of Argentina: “We need to start better
these types of matches, we were out of focus and then we got the
rhythm. They told me we now play against Cuba, a very difficult
team. We know them so we have to reinforce those details to
defeat them and move to the semifinals.”
Argentinean Horacio Bastit, Coach of Costa Rica said: “Even
though we didn’t have the Willis, one who didn’t come and the
other injured, the team played fairly well but we made too many
errors and you can’t do that against a team like Argentina. We
hope to have a better performance in the next stage.”
Ramirez said: “We did a great effort despite the absence of two
key players. The new girls were nervous, but this tournament is
valuable for the preparation towards the final qualifier to the
world championship in Trinidad & Tobago.” |
