Argentina beats Peru in straight sets
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 29, 2013. -Argentina beat Peru
in straight sets 25-16, 25-17 and 25-21 in their debut at the
U-18 Girls Pan American Cup on opening dayTeodoro Palacios
Flores Gymnasium.
Defending champion Argentina looked strong against a much
younger Peruvian squad. The best scorer for Argentina was Elina
Rodriguez with 16 points along with Sol Piccolo with 14.
Katherine Regalado with 11 straight attacks topped Colombia.
Sol Piccolo was glad for what her team accomplished “we played
well against one of the best teams in the zone, but Argentina
has more to show.”
“Peru can do better and we proved it in the third set, we still
need more experience” said Cristina Cuba.
Coach Guillermo Caceres admitted that his team performed as
expected for an opening match “it’s always difficult to start,
especially when we didn’t have preparation games.” He also
indicated that they suffered in the third set, but their serves
made a difference and know they must think in Brazil and
Dominican Republic.
“We’re presenting a young team with bench players, preparing for
the future and I believe they did well without underestimating
Argentina” said coach Enrique Briceño. |
