CALLAO, Peru, June 13, 2015 - Argentina defeated Costa Rica in
straight sets 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 27-25) in the first match of
Pool A at the XIV Women’s Pan American Cup taking place at
Miguel Grau Coliseum of Callao.
Leticia Boscacci and Sol Piccolo led the winning offense with 15
and 14 points, respectively, in a match where the Argentineans
were superior in attacks 45-28. The best scorer for Costa Rica
was Marcela Araya with 11 tallies.
“It was a tough match, we went into the match with
overconfidence and it took us a while to get the rhythm,” said
Yamila Nizetich, the captain of Argentina. “At the end the
attitude was fundamental to close the match that got too
complicated.”
“It was an irregular match for us but we were close to winning
the third set”, said Marcela Araya, the captain of Costa Rica.
“To play at the same level against a team like Argentina means
that we can continue improving.”
Guillermo Orduna, the coach of Argentina commented: “Costa Rica
was a complicated opponent and that’s what we need. It was not
easy and I want to congratulate Costa Rica. At this first stage
our objective is to recover all our players giving playing
opportunities to all the players.”
Braulio Godinez, coach of Costa Rica said: “Argentina is always
a tough rival and today we made many errors in the reception so
it was hard for us. After two irregular sets, we had an
opportunity in the third set that we couldn’t capitalize due to
the inexperience of our side made up of new members.” |
