Argentina overpowers Trinidad & Tobago
LIMA, Peru, September 22, 2016 – Argentina breezed past Trinidad
& Tobago to win 3-0 (25-12, 25-4, 25-6) for their third victory
against one loss at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup
by Gatorade on Thursday at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores.
It was the first three-set match for Argentina after winning in
four instances against Cuba and Dominican Republic and losing a
five-setter to Peru on Wednesday night.
The victory secured the South American side one of the top four
positions in the preliminary phase and a spot in Saturday’s
semifinals to be played at Cañete.
Trinidad & Tobago had a lot of difficulties dealing with the
serves from Argentina as the winners recorded 16 aces for the
match.
Elina Rodriguez had 12 points, including 9 aces, as the leading
scorer for the winners. Daniela Bulaich and Mariana Moriondo had
10 and 8, respectively, in the win while Irene Verario chipped
in with 7 points.
Guillermo Orduna, coach of Argentina:
“There are few things to analyze about this match because
Trinidad & Tobago is a developing team going through a building
process against one that came here looking for the qualification
and that’s a big difference technically. There are two different
realities, but the important thing is that Argentina kept the
composure and didn’t adjust to the opponents’ game.”
Nicholson Drakes, coach of Trinidad & Tobago:
“It has been a very difficult match for us because we are not at
the same level of Argentina. Everything is a process so we have
to keep moving forward with a lot of work for the people to
understand exactly all the work needed to be at this level.” |
