Argentina se convierte en el primer finalista de la Copa Panamericana Sub 23

GUANAJUATO, México, September 9 2016 - Argentina became the first finalist of the Cup after defeating Colombia in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-18.

German Johansen topped the Argentinean attack with 14 points, followed by Gaston Fernandez, who tallied 10 including 2 aces.

For Colombia, Juan Moreno closed with 9 points. The blocking was slightly in favor of Colombia with a 6-5 balance. However, Argentina had four aces against one by the Colombians.

“We have been playing together for many years and the team is very united. I am really happy for all the team, and tomorrow we will go for another final and we hope we can win it,” said Bruno Lima, player of Argentina.

“We want to thank God for this historic chance playing a semifinal. Things did no go as we wanted. Our opponent was strong and stood very firmly on the court. We also did that, but it was not enough for us. We have to keep going and stand up tomorrow to contend for a bronce medal,” said Kevin Carabali, captain of Colombia.

“The first goal is to qualify to the World Championship. We played two finals this year (in other tournaments) we lost those two. This will be revenge and I hope this one can be the good one for us this year. We were patient and tried to balance our service in today’s match,” Camilo Soto, coach of Argentina remarked.

“It was a difficult match, very tough. We faced the last runner ups in the U21 category. They have a lot of international experience, very different than ours. I hope the Colombian volleyball project can get more exposure and playing experience to keep growing. We will fight for a medal tomorrow and that will be a very important step for Colombia,” stated Coach Percy Oncken.
