CALI, Colombia, November 28, 2021. - Argentina
finished first of pool A after defeating
Guatemala 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-15) and will
face Mexico in semifinals at the men’s
volleyball tournament of the I Junior Pan
American Games at Evangelista Mora Coliseum.
Argentina had no difficulties in prevailing over
Guatemala and advancing into the semifinals with
an undefeated 3-0 record. Guatemala with 0-3
will face Chile for seventh place.
Argentina was superior in every element of the
game, 37-22 in attacks, 7-1 in blocks and 9-1 in
serves. Argentina committed 16 errors and
Guatemala a total of 22.
Outside hitter Nuhuel Rojas led Argentina with
11 points on 8 kills, 2 blocks and one ace, and
opposite hitter Lorenzo Nieto followed with 10
points including the most aces with 6 points.
Opposite José Rodrigo Carrillo was Guatemala’s
top scorer with 12 points on 11 kills and one
block.

Argentina: “We
always expect to win the most we can. We
performed well in the preliminary round and won
our group. We really want to do well tomorrow
and I predict a tough semifinal; our team is
young to be in this category and we will do our
best to move into the final. Our team has great
depth and everyone does their role on the
court”.
Jason Hernández, captain
of Guatemala: “We
performed better yesterday against Puerto Rico
than we did today, we didn’t have the same
attitude and Argentina’s technique gave us a
hard time to perform our game. We are glad with
our performance in the preliminary round”. |
