Argentina won to Trinidad and Tobago to play for fifth place
CHINCHA, Peru, September 12, 2014.- Argentina swept Trinidad and
Tobago by 25-11, 25-14, 25-18 to play for the fifth place of the
II Women’s U-23 Pan American Cup in the city of Chincha at Mauro
Mina Coliseum.
The South American squad finished in 64 minutes, where Caribbean
outside hitter Channon Thompson topped all scorers with a total
of 14 tallies, the one with double-figures.
The winners were led by middle blocker Micela Tassara (9),
followed by setter Priscila Bosio and opposite hitter Micaela
Fabiani with seven units apiece, where Argentina was superior in
attacks (35-15) and aces (10-2), but their opponents performed
better in the blocking category (9-3).
Guillermo Nazabal, Argentina’s head coach stated “it wasn’t the
best of all matches, we are playing for 5-8 positions, the
bottom positions and we aren’t motivated with the result in the
preliminary round, we were hoping to finish in the top four, we
almost did, but we are looking for a better rhythm and finishing
the tournament well”.
South American captain Priscila said “we were organized, even if
we lost control for moments, we needed to play with energy
because the tournament hasn’t finished yet, so we will prepare
for tomorrow and finish as good as possible, as we don’t face
anymore competitions this year”.
Young coach Saleem Ali spoke about the first two sets “we
weren’t able to perform, we didn’t do well, we need to improve a
lot, only the last set was disputed as I wanted, tomorrow I hope
history changes for us in this tournament”.
Channon Thomson, Trinitarian captain said “it was difficult to
face Argentina, they are strong and they attack hard, but we had
a better performance in the last set”.
