MANAGUA, Nicaragua, October 21, 2021 - In a game
full of emotion, the Panama team beat Honduras
3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-21) for its first triumph
at the XXI Central American Cup of Major Female
Volleyball but it also meant Captain Joanna
Arroyo's 100th official game.
The Panamanians had to fight, especially in the
second set, to take the victory, which they
dedicated to their captain, who received hugs
and applause from her teammates.
Arroyo contributed 10 points in attack, like
Anabel Mckenzie (3 in blocking), but her partner
María Gallimore, contributed 11 points. For
Honduras, the youth Reizer Bruhier scored 7
points and Estefany Godoy was left with 6.
Panama was better attacking 40-25, blocking 6-3,
but was outscored 3-4 on service, with Honduras
committing 27 errors to 30 of their opponents.
Maria Gallimore, Panama´s best scorer: “This
victory was very important emotionally. The work
was not going well, we had days that things did
not work out and we were a bit frustrated, today
we tried to concentrate, do a good job, and
apart from that, the 100th match of our captain
was achieved, which we had to dedicate the game
to her and to all of Panama ”.
Eliot Clark, Panama Coach: “Since yesterday we
decided that we had to win this game for our
Captain, for her 100th match. We left behind the
problems, the sacrifices, and we showed that the
girls have to give more”.
"We all prepared ourselves the best we could in
Panama to come and give everything here, we
lacked a bit of concentration and today we
entered the field with that attitude because we
knew we have the capacity."
