Atenienses
and Cangrejeras Win in the
Penultimate Week of the LVSF
MANATÍ, Puerto Rico, March 6, 2026 – The Atenienses de Manatí and
the Cangrejeras de Santurce claimed victories on Friday night during
the eighth and penultimate week of action in the Women’s Superior
Volleyball League (LVSF).
At
the Juan Aubín Cruz Coliseum, the Atenienses went the distance
against the Criollas de Caguas to split the three points available
from the match: two for Manatí and one for Caguas.
Set
scores for the Atenienses’ victory were 23-25, 26-24, 31-29, 18-25,
15-10.
Manatí took control of the match two sets to one, coming from behind
in sets two and three.
In
the second set, the Criollas reached set point first at 24-22 with a
block on Ariana Pagán, but three consecutive attacks by Karla
Santos—one from the back row and two from zone four—put the
Atenienses back in front, and they closed the set with a block by
Jomailee Reyes on Jenaisya Moore.
The
third set was a “copy and paste” of the previous one. Caguas took a
21-16 lead, but Manatí responded with a 7-2 run that included an
error by the Criollas when returning the ball without attacking,
sending it out and tying the set at 23.
The
teams then traded ties from point 24 through 29.
The
Atenienses closed the set with a successful attack by Karla Santos
and an offensive error by Jenaisya Moore.
Caguas forced the decisive set, but Manatí pulled away comfortably
in the fifth.
Manatí had five players in double figures, led by Karla Santos with
29 points, followed by Shaylee Myers with 20, Solimar Cestero with
13, Jomailee Reyes with 12, and Emily Elliot with 10.
For
Caguas, Jenaisya Moore scored 25 points, Génesis Collazo added 19,
Alexandra Sczech scored 16, and Diana Reyes finished with 14.
Manatí improves to a 7-10 record with 21 accumulated points,
occupying fourth place, while Caguas remains in third place with an
8-10 record and 26 points.
In
the other match of the night, the Cangrejeras de Santurce moved to
within four wins of completing the regular season undefeated,
earning their 16th victory of the season and reaching 45 total
points, this time over the Valencianas de Juncos.
Set
scores were 25-19, 18-25, 25-10, 25-17.
Helena Grozer led Santurce’s offense with 18 points, followed by
Tamara Otene with 16 and Andrea Rangel with 13. For Juncos, Haley
Bush led the team with 13 points.
Juncos earned no points in the loss and remains in sixth and last
place in the standings with a 5-13 record and 15 points.
The
eighth week of LVSF action concludes this Sunday with a single match
on the schedule, when the Criollas de Caguas host the Atenienses de
Manatí at the Roger Mendoza Vidal Coliseum at 7:00 p.m. |
