El
Salvador claims first victory
PANAMA CITY, Panama, August 17, 2012. – El Salvador claimed its
first victory by defeating Belize 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-18 ) in
the opening match at the First Round 2014 FIVB World
Championship Qualifier Women’s Group G.
The winners had a rough start which Belize took advantage of but
came short in the end. El Salvador was led by Adriana Flores
with 11 points while Shelmadine Cacho, also with 11 points did
her part for Belize.
“Above all we worked together as a team and our concentration in
doing things well. We were able to make their errors our win,”
El Salvador’s Adriana Flores stated.
Sherylee Young-Thurton captain of Belize said: “First I would
like to congratulate El Salvador; as for our performance I
believe we played well but with a lot of problems in our
service, even though we improved during the course of the match
they did a great defensive job.”
Winning Coach Gabriel Linares was satisfied with the victory and
agreed that their concentration was essential. “My team
followed instructions because we knew that Belize has been
improving over the years so we couldn’t afford to take any risks
and that was why our serves were strong to win key points.”
“Our reception wasn’t good and when we made mistakes they were
4 or 5 in a row and caused us to lose our concentration which
can only be fixed by playing at a higher level. El Salvador
played with great defense and we weren’t able to stick with the
plan,” Belize’s coach Allan Sharp said. |
