USA clinch second victory at U18 Continental Championship

TIJUANA, Mexico, August 7, 2012 — The United States clinched their second victory at the Norceca Women’s U18 Continental Championship, after beating Guatemala in straight sets (25-6, 25-5, 25-12).

Carli Snyder scored 12 points and had 4 aces while Simone Lee finished with 10 points for USA. Guatemala’s captain Estefanie Bethancourth scored 4 for her team. “Despite this result, I am happy to play here against a team with a great level and now we must prepare and be ready against Costa Rica,” said Bethancourth.

American captain Taylor Tashima said: “we had a good execution, and good chemistry. After two matches we have felt stronger on the court.”

For Julio Domínguez, coach of Guatemala, there is only one way to learn and to improve. “Nobody likes to lose, but this match against a high level team is important and in the last set, the girls saw what they are able to do, we must work more with our reception,” he said.

USA coach Reed Sunahara congratulated Dominguez after the third set performace. “Guatemala did good things. I wish the best of luck to the coach and on our side we stayed focused and excecuted very well. I was happy for that but we still have a long way to go, and now to prepare against Mexico.”
