Big win
for Martinique at NORCECA Championships
GATINEAU, Canada, August 18, 2010 – Martinique won the battle
for third spot in pool C at the NORCECA junior men’s volleyball
championships on Wednesday defeating Trinidad and Tobago 25-12,
25-8, 25-20.
“I’m
super happy,” said Martinique head coach Eddie Salomon. “Not
only did we play well but we also maintained a good point spread
which could very important for us for the consolation
quarterfinal rankings. We were consistent”
Martinique (1-2) had lost its first two matches to the U.S., and
Mexico. Jordi Eniona and Boris Zeline scored nine points each
for the winners.
“It
feels great to get a win after two lopsided losses,” said Zeline.
“We clearly learned from those two matches.”
It
was a disappointing performance for Trinidad and Tobago (0-3).
Their top scorers were Kazeem Khan and Bernard Renaud with four
points each.
“Very disappointed,” said Trinidad and Tobago captain Akim Bushe.
“We really needed to win this game but we couldn’t find any
rhythm. They didn’t surprise us because we had played them in
qualifying and we knew of their capabilities.” |
