Honduras determined to place seventh
GATINEAU, Canada, August 19, 2010 – Honduras fended off a strong
effort by Martinique on Thursday to win the second consolation
quarterfinal 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 at the NORCECA junior men’s
volleyball championships.
With the win, Honduras will face rival Guatemala for seventh
place on Friday. Martinique heads to the ninth place match
against St. Lucia.
Josue Carbajal Vargas led the Honduras attack with 17 points
while Jorge Riveral Murillo added 10. Yves Vadeleux led all
scorers with 20 points while Emmanuel Aglae and Boris Zeline
added 11 each.
‘’To win two matches here, we are proud of ourselves,’’ said
Carbajal. ‘’This victory is for the players and all of
Honduras. We plan to give everything we have against
Guatemala.’’
Martinique continued be a pesky opponent and were competitive in
every set. Still, coach Eddy Salomon felt the result could have
been more impressive.
‘’I am bit disappointed because our guys didn’t play up to their
potential,’’ said Salomon. ‘’I think they are starting to feel
some fatigue and getting ready for a big tournament is something
we need to work on more.’’ |
