Canada adds another win in Pool A
MAYAGÜEZ, Puerto Rico, August 30, 2011. - Canada added another
win in Pool A prevailing 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-13) over St.
Lucia on the second day of action at the Men’s NORCECA
Championship at “Palacio de los Deportes” in Mayagüez.
Canada with solid blocks and attacks prevailed over St. Lucia
who gave a wonderful surprise taking the first set tied up to
point 11. Actions in the second and third sets showed a much
more offensive Canada forcing St. Lucia to be less consistent.
Canada has a 2-0 win-loss record.
With 14 points, Gavin Schmitt and Justin Duff with 11, lead
Canada; while for St. Lucia, Jason Octave and Julian Bisstte
contributed with 8 a piece.
“Nothing is ever easy, we picked up in the second set and
executed very well” said Frederic Winters, captain of Canada.
Jason Octave, St. Lucia’s captain expressed “we did pretty good
in our offense during the first set; I don’t believe it was a
surprise and we scored as we were in the right position at the
right time.”
Coach Glenn Hoag of Canada indicated “we had a better relation
between our setter and opposites, so we were much effective
today; the pressure set by St. Lucia was good for the team”.
“We managed long rallies in the first set but our inexperience
had an impact on our performance, I believe we were much better
than yesterday” said Kendall Charlery of St. Lucia. |
