Cuba scores victory over Trinidad & Tobago
MAYAGÜEZ, Puerto Rico, August 30, 2011.- Cuba scored its second
victory in Pool B at the Men’s NORCECA Championship over
Trinidad & Tobago by 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-13) this Tuesday.
Cuba took control from beginning to finish making it possible to
give all its players a chance to step in, while Trinidad &
Tobago seemed out of rhythm.
Fernando Hernandez was Cuba’s top scorer with 17 points, 6 of
them were asses and for Tinidad & Tobago, the best was Marc
Honore with 8 points.
“Leaving aside that Trinidad & Tobago is not an elite team, it
was a good match. We must face each of our opponents one at a
time to be in the finals” the words of young Wilfredo Leon.
Nolan Tash spoke about his teams’ performance by emphasizing
that they do not see themselves inferior “we were the ones with
the most errors, today we couldn’t get into the flow of the game
and I myself am suffering of a small injury that took me out of
my natural capability.”
Coach Orlando Samuels from Cuba expressed “in NORCECA there are
two levels of teams and this may turn things difficult because
the athletes intend to develop differently, specially with young
players. We take it seriously each time and I can´t anticipate
anything.”
“We have to be realistic, my team competes every two years,
while Cuba does it every two months, and we tried to fulfill a
plan that didn’t turn out well” said Coach Gideon Dickson. |
