Trinidad & Tobago takes the third place in Pool B
MAYAGÜEZ, Puerto Rico, August 31, 2011. – Trinidad & Tobago
finished in third place of Pool B of the Men’s NORCECA
Championship by scoring 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 28-26) victory
against Costa Rica and gave them a berth in the quarterfinals.
Despite Trinidad & Tobago won, the first and third sets were
taken to the limit but Costa Rica wasn’t able to respond. The
winners dominated with aces 9-1 and in blocks 7-4.
The best players for Trinidad & Tobago were Marc Honore with 21
points and Nolan Nash with 15. For the Costarican side, José
Suarez with 9 points.
“Our goal was to be in the quarterfinals and we will hopefully
build from here; Costa Rica has improved but we took advantage
of their mistakes” said Nolan Nash, captain of Trinidad &
Tobago.
Richard Smith, Costa Rica’s captain indicated “Trinidad played
very well, we tried to do our best and they gave us a hard
time”.
Gideon Dickson Trinidad & Tobago’s coach was pleased to be in
the quarterfinals, “even if we won, both teams have grown and
learned, I believe the reasons we won were: our serves and we
wanted it more.”
“Our deficiencies in serves was key for the loss, we continue to
make this mistake while Trinidad’s serve is strong and
effective” said Cesar Salas. |
