BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 12, 2015 - Puerto Rican Aury Cruz and
Dominican Brenda Castillo were among the most awarded players in
the Azerbaiján Volleyball Women Super League that concluded on
Sunday with their Rabita Baku club capturing the title for
eighth time in the history of the circuit.
The veteran Cruz was named the Most Valuable Player of the
Finals besides being selected as the best spiker of the season.
Castillo won the honors as best digger and best libero.
Thailand’s Nootsara Tomkom, also playing for Rabita, was named
the league’s Most Valuable Player and also took home the
trophies as best setter and best server.
Rabita Baku swept the best-of-three final series against
Lokomotiv Baku winning both matches in four sets after losing
the opening set.
They took the path towards the crown with a 3-1 (25-27, 25-21,
25-21, 25-19) win on Friday and came back to claim the title
following the 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-13) on Sunday.
The bronze medal went to Azeryol-Baki Baku which won two
straight-set matches over Azerrail Baku 3-0 (25-22, 25-10,
25-16) and 3-0 (25-21, 31-29, 25-18).
