Aury Cruz was the only flag bearer from volleyball
VERACRUZ, Mexico, November 14, 2014 – Puerto Rican Aurea “Aury”
Cruz was the only volleyball athlete who paraded as flag bearer
during the opening ceremony of the XXII Central American and
Caribbean Games on Friday.
The veteran volleyball player led her delegation during the
traditional parade around the “Pirate” Fuente Stadium.
The XXII Central American Games were inaugurated with a colorful
and memorable opening ceremony that included one stage and show
never seen before in this type of regional event.
The Puerto Ricans, with Aury leading, received a big ovation
from the crowd of over 23,000 spectators at the Stadium. Puerto
Rico marched with more than 250 members –including athletes,
coaches and delegates- and was one of the biggest delegations at
the opening ceremony.
“I feel very happy and excited. As the weeks and days were
closer, the anxiety and the nerves kept coming. To be the flag
bearer of such beautiful delegation that is going to bring
medals to the country. What a moment so good in my life and
sport career to go through this experience,” Cruz commented.
The player, who is taking part in her fourth Games, joined her
team after the ceremony to start playing in the women’s
volleyball tournament to take place in the city of Cordoba. |
