Bahamas all smiles with another victory
Marigot, St. Martin August 10 2013 - Team Bahamas got a second
victory in as many matches when they put away strong contenders
Barbados in straight sets (25-23, 25-21 and 25-22) in the third
match of the Men's World Cup Qualifiers group I.
It was the most competitive game so far in term of points
deferential but Bahamas kept their poise to starve off
Barbados' rallies at crucial points in the games.
Princ Tanique Wilson of Bahamas was on fire with 17 points.
Within that he put together 12 spikes and 5 service aces. No
one else came close. His teammate Renaldo Knowles had 11 points
(9 spikes). Fabian Cox of Barbados also had 11 points in a
losing cause.
Overall Bahamas won in the spikes department 31-25 but Barbados
outscored them in blocks 10 - 4. However the service points were
led by Bahamas 10 -3.
Coach Leger Niles of Barbados was not very disappointed with the
defeat. "We did not play as well as we could have and lost in
three but all the games ended with us in the 20's. Our receiving
and passing were poor and almost every member of the team had
service errors. One cannot expected to commit so many unforced
errors and win at this level", he reported.
The winning coach, Wilson of Bahamas was happy as everything was
going as planned. " It was all a matter of putting together
consistent, sound volleyball. We made a conscious effort to
reduce our errors and I must accept that our service game gave
us the edge in many instances," he said.
With 2 victories, Bahamas is well placed to play in the finals
and is anticipating another clash with Barbados. Barbados on the
other hand is concentrating on winning their final preliminary
game before addressing areas of adjustments for dealing with
Bahamas again. |
