WILLEMSTAD, Curacao, July 10, 2015 - The Barbadians continued to
roll when they overwhelmed Bonaire 25-11, 25-18, 25-17 in the
first of four matches on the second and final day of round-robin
action in the CAZOVA Youth Girls’ Championships.
It was always going to be a tough proposition for the under-18
players from Bonaire as they had to return to the court just
nine hours after they had lost a heart-breaking five-setter in
135 minutes against Curacao a few minutes before midnight the
night before.
Still, they were in contention until the Barbadians changed
gears at 8-8 and went on to take 17 of the last 20 points en
route to a routine victory in 73 minutes.
Aaliyah Durant led the way with 15 points, while skipper Ashley
Jordan and Dashonta Addison chipped in with 11 each for the
winners.
No player managed more than four points for Bonaire, who were
completed dominated in spikes (33-7), service winners (17-6) and
blocked shots (7-0).
The victory followed a flying start to the tournament the day
before when the Barbadians whipped three-time defending champs
Trinidad and Tobago in straight sets in the opening match.
In the night session, Bonaire will conclude the round-robin
phase against T&T, while Barbados will tackle Curacao. |
