Barbados Girls and Jamaica Boys Win on CAZOVA U19 opening
SPANISH TOWN, Jamaica, July 27 2024.- The Caribbean Zonal Volleyball
Association (CAZOVA) Under 19 Championships got underway on Saturday at
GC Foster college in Spanish Town, with a short opening ceremony
followed by two exciting games.
In the first game, Barbados girls had to fight for every point as they
beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-1. Like an appetizer, that game encouraged
the fans to crave for more.
The second game saw hosts Jamaica boys take on Aruba in an absorbing
encounter which Jamaica eventually won 3-0. All the sets were close,
ensuring excitement and tension.
Jamaica’s drive was engineered by the precise setting and game craft of
captain Toshiro Jones Aruba had their moments but were never able to
pin down the hosts who started fast in all three sets but slowed towards
the end and gave Aruba hope.
Jamaica’s coach Adrian Ramdeen; ” Our team is far better than how we
played tonight. They seem to have a mental block when they get to 20.
That area must be corrected before we face other teams who are better in
transition and hence more dangerous.”
Aruba coach Bercy Phillipa; “We are not a accustomed to having such
tight games and not walk away with a win. We got to know that we gotta
step up our level. The Jamaican team really kept up to their standards.
They knew what they had to do, and they really fought well."
The competition continues today at 1:00pm with four games; two males
and two females. |
