Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago Women to Battle for Gold
NASSAU, The Bahamas, August 21 - Former six times queens Barbados
and their archrivals previous champions Trinidad and Tobago will
battle for the gold at the 19th CAZOVA championships being played
here in Nassau, The Bahamas.
Barbados and T&T qualified for the final in contrasting styles.
Barbados was cruising to victory against Guadeloupe before dropping
two sets and faced game and match point before sneaking home in the
Kendal GL Isaacs National Gymnasium 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 22-25,
17-15.
The Bajans who topped Group C without losing a set needed to rely on
the attack of captain Ashley Jordan and Shonte Seale to pull off the
win. In the deciding set Guadeloupe averted the end at 13-14 to then
hold the advantage 15-14. Barbados survived to take the set and
game 17-15.
T&T were brutal in crushing and dethroning the 2023 queens Jamaica
25-11, 25-19, 25-9. Jamaica had no answer for the height and power
of T&T who dominated Group D and are heavily favoured to take their
gold.
The performance of the CAZOVA teams at these championships has
created impressive movements on the FIVB world charts. Barbados
have moved to 48th, T&T to 52nd, Jamaica to 53rd and Guadeloupe are
now 55th. |
