Barbados beat Bahamas and return to men’s Caribbean Championship final
PARAMARIBO, Suriname, July 28, 2023.- Barbados will have another shot at
winning their 11th Caribbean Championship on Sunday, as the
Bajans will face either hosts Suriname or Trinidad and Tobago of the 18th
edition of the tournament in Paramaribo.
Barbados was incredibly dominant in the semifinals at the Anthony Nesty
Sport hall on Friday, as they gave just one set away to Bahamas,
producing a 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-22) win to return to the gold
medal match.
This will be the fourteenth appearance for Barbados in the event’s gold
medal match – they lost to defending champion Suriname in the 17th
edition, in 2018.
Team captain and Outside hitter Oxley led Barbados with 22 points. He is
joined by middle blocker Akeil and opposite Mayers with 14 and 13 points
respectively. For Bahamas outside hitter Wilson 21 points including 5
spikes and 5 block.

“All the credit are going to the players. The have fought all through
this tournament. Especially those young players we have coming up doing
great stuff out on the court. Let’s see who will we meet in the final on
Sunday.”
Akeel Oxley, captain of Barbados:
“We know that we have to be very focus in this match. I don’t mind
playing either Suriname or Trinidad. We have a good team that is
building something. It will be a great final on Sunday.” |
