BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, December 9, 2015 - Vice captain Adam Niles
brought the thunder and Ahkeem Mayers along with Carlos Cyrus
added the lightning as defending champions Barbados boys blasted
Haiti in the 10th CAZOVA Junior championships on Day Three at
the Wildey Gymnasium, Bridgetown.
Haiti had shocked the large Gym of supporting spectators to lead
Barbados 8-3 in the first set. But, after Niles launched the
counter, the Bajans out spiked and out blocked their French
rivals to silence their aggression and their fans 25-17, 25-11,
25-12.
With setter Paul Doughty running a smooth offense, Barbados'
middles Shamar Bishop and Shevin Blades also enjoyed a great
attacking and blocking game. Coach John Stuart savoured the
luxury of giving court time to all of his player with captain
Andriy Stapleton playing a restrained game as he was carrying a
slight injury.
Both Cyrus and Mayers scored 11 points each for Barbados with
Niles contributing seven as Judenel Paul with 11 points and Love
Cothiere, 7, vainly tried to match the hosts. Barbados
dominated in spikes, 28-16, 9-2 in blocks and 8-2 in serves. |
