Barbados defeats Haiti for third spot
COUVA,
Trinidad, July 9, 2017 - Ten-time winners Barbados ended the
16th Senior Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA)
Men’s Championship on a high by beating Haiti 3-0 (25-19, 25-13,
27-27) for third spot at the National Cycling Centre.
For the
Barbadians, Ammuniki Wood led the way with 12 points and captain
Shawn Simpson added ten, while the duo of Ahkeem Mayers and Kyle
Browne added nine each.
The
Haitians, who were making their finals debut got a team best
eight points from Claude Antoine while Newbornson Glezil and
Leslee Alexandre got six points each.
It was
a much deserved win for Barbados and its second over Haiti after
winning their group round-robin duel in five sets.
Despite
their semifinal loss to Martinique to miss out on a chance at
qualification to the FIVB Men’ World Championship, Barbados
proved it was up for the task and dominated Haiti 38-25 on
spikes, 12-7 on blocks and 3-0 on aces. |
