Barbados start CAZOVA U18 with victory over Guadeloupe
SPANISH TOWN, Jamaica, July 22, 2019 - Barbados defeated
Guadeloupe 3-0 to win the opening match of the Caribbean Zonal
Volleyball Association's (CAZOVA) girls' Under-18 tournament at
GC Foster College in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Monday morning.
The taller and bigger in size Barbados players, showed superior
skills in all areas of the sport, serving, spiking and blocking
consistently throughout to win 25-16, 25-15, 25-4.
In the first set, Barbados got off to a quick start with
Guadeloupe failing to cope with the first four serves before a
net serve and a spike by Lucxiane Lengrai allowed Guadeloupe to
collect their first two points.
With the lead established, Barbados continued to outplay their
opponents, widening the score constantly, until nearing the end
of the set, when Guadeloupe staged a minute rally, to put
respectability to the score.
The second set started fairly even with Barbados leading 7-6
until they went on a winning streak to lead at 17-6 and although
Guadeloupe fought back in the middle of the set to reach 19-15,
the task of overhauling Barbados proved difficult.
The third set was another stroll for Barbados, as they rushed
into an 8-3 lead and from then on it was all Barbados as the
next point Guadeloupe got was at 22-4.
For Barbados, Tenneille Chapman-Goodluck was their all-round
best player as she had six shots and three spikes, with 13 aces
and three digs. Guadeloupe had a number of players contributing
with Gabrielle Balzamont and Amadine Vadimon having four spikes
each. Vadimon also had seven aces.
The victory ensured that Barbados take the lead in Group B of
the tournament, which also has Trinidad and Tobago. Group A
comprised of host Jamaica, United States Virgin Island and
Suriname. |
