Barbados stops former queens Martinique

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, December 11, 2015 - A new queen will rule junior Caribbean volleyball when the 10th CAZOVA championship climaxes on Sunday in Bridgetown, Barbados.

That is because the 2013 queens Martinique were tumbled from their throne by a motivated Barbados team 25-20, 26-24, 25-13 in the quarterfinals.  The potency of the attack from Deandra Small, the high jumping Shonte Seale and Aliyyah Durant denied the French team further passage in front of a large and supportive crowd.

Small whose name fits her small stature smoked the ball with a giant hand to score 13 points as her mother danced all night in the stands waving a huge Barbados flag. Seale contributed 12 points and opposite Durant added nine.

Noemie Beltant was the most consistent player for Martinique scoring 12 points but it was the overall attack where Barbados dominated 42-15.  With a score of 24-22 in the second set, Martinique should have evened the battle.

However, 13 year old reserve setter Dashonta Addison was sent into the game to rack up two aces and then used her magic fingers to set up winners for Barbados to lock the score at 24 and then take the set.  The third set was a rout as the Bajans pounded the hapless French girls who will battle for a lower than expected position.
