Barbados to semifinals in CAZOVA U20
RIVIERE-SALEE, Martinique, December 10, 2019 - Team captain
Tenielle Chapman-Goodluck was unstoppable from her Outside
Hitter position as Barbados punished Guadeloupe 3-0 (25-7,
25-15, 25-18) to advance to the semifinals of the Caribbean
Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Junior (Under-20)
Women Championship.
Tournament runners-up in 1997, 1999 and 2015, the last time
the competition was held, Barbados victory cemented top spot
in the Pool B three-team round-robin series after they also
swept six-time winners Trinidad and Tobago 25-21, 25-18,
25-17 at La Ville Riviere-Salee Palais Des Sport on Sunday.
Chapman-Goodluck tallied a team-high 25 points which
comprised 12 spikes, nine service aces, and four blocks
while Nerissa Dyer was the next best scorer with nine points
as they completely dominated their rivals, 28-9 on spikes,
8-3 on blocks, and 16-1 on service aces.
The low point for the tournament favourites Barbados came in
the errors department, where there tallied 26 to
Guadeloupe’s 23.
Guadeloupe’s best contributors were Edwina Sergius and Teha
Meslier De Rocan with three points each.
The victory improved Barbados to a perfect 2-0 record and 10
points and passage straight to the semifinals alongside Pool
A winners, US Virgin Islands.
Trinidad and Tobago ended second in Pool B with a 1-1 record
and will face winless Curacao (0-2) of Pool A in the
quarterfinals on Wednesday, while Martinique (1-1) who ended
second in Pool A tackles Pool B cellar-placed team
Guadeloupe (0-2) in the other quarterfinal.
