Barbados women earns win against Suriname to finish third

 

PARAMARIBO. Suriname, July 29, 2023.- Barbados came back from behind to earn a 3-2 (19-25, 23-25, 27-25, 25-23, 15-12) win against host Suriname in their match for bronze. With the win at 18th Caribbean Championship in Paramaribo, Barbados showed that they have a good future coming up.

 

Barbados fought their way back in this game after trailing 2-0. The third set Barbados show they are capable of pushing for every point. They got the momentum going and took the game by the struck of the neck. It was their first win in the tournament was against Bahamas and since that day they keep fighting for every points. Both Suriname and Barbados met each other before in the tournament when Suriname did win. Barbados made just  28 unforced errors to 36 for Suriname.  

 

Outside hitter Shonte Seale and middle blocker Chapman led Barbados with 27 points. Including 3 block, 3 spiked, 3 digs and 2 aces for Seale. For Suriname outside hitter Sharon Balkaran scored 23 points and she was joint by outside hitter Ketura Margaret and captain Sandrina Hunsel with 18 and 12 points respectively. Outide hitter Hunsel say farewell to the international game.

 

Shon Hurdle, coach of Barbados: “I am happy for them. They did well. They fight hard and wanted this game so bad. They really wanted to show what they can do and they have showed it tonight. They realize that they played for their country and did well.”

 

Shakera Hall, Captain of Barbados: “We came in today to execute the game plan. We push really hard and we came through and we won three sets in a row. I feel good. Third place in this tournament is not so bad with these young ladies. We have time to improve to come for the title next time.”

 

Shonte Seale, Barbados: “This team is very young. At first, we try to figure things out. We realize that we have each other back. We never going to give up and we fought. I told everyone to have fun and when we play like that, we always play better with no pressure at all. I am happy with the third-place finish.”
