Barbados, Canada, Guatemala, USA and U.S. Virgin Islands Women Enjoy Victories on Day One at Bonaire NORCECA Tour

BONAIRE, Bonaire, November 1. 2024.- Padmore/Edwards of Barbados, Roskic/Licht of Canada, Giron/Alvarado of Guatemala, Kan/Sours of USA and Almeida-Anz/Bennett of the U.S. Virgin Islands enjoyed victories in their two outings on day one of the seventh stage of the 2024 NORCECA Tour in Bonaire. 

Dei Padmore and Serena Edwards of Barbados won their two matches in Pool A, prevailing 2-0 (9, 21-14) against Asma Charles/Kristianna Richards of Trinidad and Tobago, and 2-0 (21-18, 2-10) over Maria Kuijt/Linde Groot of Bonaire, securing their place in the quarterfinals.

In Pool B, Canadians Dana Roskic and Anna Licht battled hard to overcome USA’s Jade Race/Kaely Crews 2-1 (27-25, 19-21, 15-11) after they easily saw off Gabriela Ramírez/María Fernanda Becerra (BON) 2-0 (21-7, 21-3).

Race/Crews (USA) started the event with loss to Guatemala’s Natalia Girón and Paola Alvarado 2-0 (21-14, 21-16) who ended the day with a solid victory 2-0 (21-1, 21-2) against Ramírez/Becerra of Bonaire.

Giron/Alvarado and Roskic/Licht will clash on Saturday at 9:00 am for first place in Pool B.

Carly Kan alongside Devanne Sours of United States and Cristina Almeida-Anz with Amber Bennett of the U.S. Virgin Islands are both unbeaten and are set to play for top spot in Pool C at 10:30 am.

Kan/Sours (USA) showed superiority beating Lakisha Hous/Dyveke Brugman of Curaçao 2-0 (21-6, 21-8) and Valeria Morales/Danna Arteaga of Bonaire 2-0 (21-2, 21-2)

Almeida-Anz/Benner (ISV) needed three sets to dominate Curaçao’s Hous/Brugman 2-1 (21-17, 19-21, 15-8), and then claimed a 2-0 (21-4, 21-7) victory over the local team of Morales/Arteaga. 

Asma Charles/Kristianna Richards of Trinidad and Tobago advanced to the next round finishing second in Pool A after a tough win 2-0 (21-19, 22-20) over Bonaire’s Maria Kuijt/Linde Groot.

Pool-play will resume at the Rudy Boezen complex on Saturday morning. The top two teams from each pool and the best two third-placed teams advance to the quarterfinals to be held later in the day.
