Barbados, Suriname enter CAZOVA Under-19 final confident of win
SPANISH TOWN, Jamaica, July 26, 2019 - Both Barbados and
Suriname will enter Saturday's Caribbean Zonal Volleyball
Association (CAZOVA) boys' Under-19 final confident that they
have the firepower to overpower their opponents and crown
themselves champion.
One week of preliminaries has elapsed and Barbados have won all
four matches, in the process defeating Suriname 3-1 (10-25,
25-22, 25-13, 25-21) to place themselves firmly at the top of
the preliminary round standing.
Suriname's only demise was that loss and according to Barbados'
coach, Elwyn Oxley, they entered that game, hoping to get the
psychological edge over their opponents, in preparation for the
final.
He said, "my instructions to my guys were that we needed to
defeat Suriname, because I knew from the beginning of where the
tournament was going, that we would meet them in the final, so I
told them that we need to win that game, so that when we meet
them in the final, we will have a psychological edge on them.
Which we did.
"I am looking forward to a victory as it is what we come here
for. The guys are playing well and as the tournament goes by
they are getting better and better."
For Suriname's coach Getrouw Verdy, his only mission is to win,
although be believes Barbados will be tough opposition.
Verdy said, "I expect nothing but a victory. I am expecting a
good final game. We both want first place. They defeated us in
the preliminaries but this is the final and we will see at the
end.
"They are a strong team. They don't have too many weaknesses but
if there are, we will find out tomorrow, as we will be playing
just to win," Verdy said. |
